RESIGNED: A Poem

resigned
to caging
the tiger still paces
the four barred walls
stare back
flare up
wrap around
above beneath
children’s laughter:
calliope
wind blows
through the bars
mocking in its
freedom satiated:
green grass
billowing clouds
unobstructed
by steel lined roof;
beauty
unknown.

time comes
passes
and mockery makes
of wood and steel
of cart and wheel
and of cage
bars long since
crumbled
to rust
and by freedom winds
blown away;
resigned
to caging
the tiger still paces.
