Subversion refers to an attempt to transform the established social order and its structures of power, authority, and hierarchy by persons working from within; also : refers to the processes by which the values and principles of a system in place are contradicted or reversed.
The Latin root “subvertere” means “to turn from below,”; turning something on its head in a surreptitious or unexpected way.
Throughout time subversion has had a long and varied history. One thing that’s remained fairly constant over the years is that generally it is most practiced by two groups of people: comedians and terrorists.
Now, we’re definitely not terrorists – unless the ideas of compassion and enlightenment are something that cause you fear. And while we don’t consider ourselves comedians of any talent we have definitely be told that we’re “funny” over the years by the people who have known us, and like the first group mentioned, are driven by the need to bring about change.
So, what IS Subversion?
When things are this bad a turning away can only be a good thing.
We’re not here to take your government away, but we may be the reason you start to question some of the things they’re doing. We’re not going to tell you to stop going to church, but we might make you stop and think about why you started going in the first place – and if it’s the same reason you keep going.
The system we seek to overthrow isn’t any corporation or any political power – it’s reality. We want to turn the familiar things on their head and make you ask WHY because we believe that the mundane contains the magical and that changing perspective changes the very world you experience.
The machinations of the world have gone off their rails, the wheelman is asleep, and we’re headed for the chasm. We look around at the world today and see so much apathy, hatred, and self-concern when we need more compassion, love, and altruism. In a world where kindness has become so rare so as to be received with suspicion things need to change. We’ve begun here by starting this publication, and we want you to be part of it.
How To Be A Part Of It
We’re not going to have you run around tearing the labels off of mattresses or anything crazy like that, but we will encourage you to hug your neighbor, smile at a stranger, and challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone and to maybe be just a little weird.
Our website and Facebook page is already up and running and we’ve been collecting content from those of you so good as to offer it as well as writing our own articles to help show you the kind of things we like to publish.
We’ve sourced printers, started doing page layouts as well as begun gathering advertising partners to place promotions in our print edition. The gofundme campaign has been created to help cover printing and distribution costs ( please help out by sharing it if you haven’t already done so! ).
But we still need you. We WANT you.
If you’re a writer or poet we have a place for you.
If you’re an artist or photographer we have a place for you.
If you’re a musician, metalworker, baker, or aeronaut we have a place for you.
If you’re not ANY of those things but you have something to say about how you’ve seen your reality in a different way, or about the state of the world that keeps you from doing so – we have a place for you.
We are openly receiving and reviewing submissions for publication on our website, which are also widely publicized on social media. These entries will then be considered for publication in our later quarterly print publications.
We are also looking for businesses interested in advertising in our publication as well as providing space for our printed editions in their location for distribution!
Just like reality itself, Subversion is what you make it.
